Marti and Me Club
      Marti and Me club will meet on June 16th from 1 to 4. If you attend this meeting you will receive a pattern for coming to class.  The pattern includes at least 5 different individual patterns. In June, Carol will be demoing the 60 degree Diamond Template with a 1800's Dutch Tile Candle Mat. In July, Carol will be showing a Wall Hanging called "Calling All Points" using the Long Skinny Sashing Star Set.
     Each month, Marti and Me opens up our minds to patterns and templates to see what the capabilities of each tool can be. You are welcome to come and sew or come and go.   Marti's templates are so accurate that they make the hardest shapes easy. We also have a card made by Marti that you can mark all the templates you have purchased and carry it with you so you will not duplicate any of these handy items.



Floriani Products Update

     We just came back from a four day seminar to learn the Floriani software. It was an amazing four days filled with wonderful info to open new directions in machine embroidery programs. We will be exploring Floriani's software which can be used on any embroidery machine. This software when purchased has FREE upgrades FOREVER -YES WE SAID FOREVER.
     We will be selling the entire line of Floriani including their wonderful special  Floriani packages. These are different every other month which includes special thread groupings, designs and sabilizer groups. This company has a complete line of stabilizers used in embroidery or for other projects. The thread is some of the very best I have ever used. The colors are vast and wonderful. Be sure to stop in to see this new addition to the shop.
     We just added a complete line of Stabilizers and batting for Quilters. This  includes a print and piece, double sided web, wool batting, cotton batting and a lite web used for applique. There are information sheets with the products so make sure you pick one up and become familar with this top quality items.

Floriani Event
    The Floriani Event  will be coming Friday and Saturday, September 11th and 12th from 10 to 4:30. This Event will come at a cost of $49.99 for the day with each person attending, taking home $499 worth of product home. Each day is the same so you can either sign up for Friday September 11th or Saturday, September 12th. This is what Floriani states on their web site:
Novice, intermediate, or master, whatever your level ... we will teach you how to combine threads and fabrics in a new and exciting way! No More Ruined Garments, Puckered Embroideries or Off-Center Designs.  Anyone Can Create Beautiful Embroidery With The Right Techniques & Secrets! Each day will be divided into two sessions:

10:00am to 1:00pm: Basics to Beautiful

Creating beautifully embroidered garments, quilts and other items starts with the right foundation and combination of stabilizers, threads and designs. Join Floriani for this in depth embroidery class and learn stress-free techniques for hooping, eliminating puckering, understanding embroidery designs and how they affect your garment, choosing the right needle for stitch and garment type. This three hour session will be very in depth and full of fantastic information which will make your embroidery creations perfect every time!

2:00pm to 4:30pm: Let’s Get Creative

In the afternoon we will move into how to use Floriani Stabilizers and our other specialty products for quilting, applique, home decorating items, embellishment and more! Who knew stabilizers could make such a fun difference in your creativity! This afternoon session will surely get your creative juices flowing and give you fantastic ideas for gift giving, stitching with your kids or grandkids, and most importantly having fun in your sewing room but with perfect results!

There is limited space and a limited number of people will be accepted so be sure to sign up early. Floriani will be advertising our event to all of their customers all over the country. Do not let this Event pass you by especially if you are an embroiderer or "a want to be embroiderer. This day will fill you with so much valuable information to make you more successful in this wonderful world of stitches.

Mariner's Compass Star Paper Piecing Class

Have you ever wanted to learn to Paper Piece? Monday, June 1st, Judy Coghill will be teaching the ease of Paper Piecing while making some drop dead gorgeous Mariner's Compass Star Blocks to be used in a table runner or quilt.  This class will will begin at 12 noon and run till 4pm. We are also offering this class during our $5 Saturday, June 13th and every 2nd Saturday of the month after that.  We will copy the Stars being used that day so you will be able to use our Paper Piecing Paper. The cost of this class is $10 for the instruction. Be sure to purchase the book and the add a quarter ruler to help with the piecing.

Row By Row
It is that time of year when the Row by Row will be starting. What is the Row By Row you ask? This is a shop hop that includes all  50 states and Canada. On June 21st through September 9th, you can pop into any participating shop and ask for their FREE pattern which is 9 1/2"  by 36 1/2" and the theme this year is "WATER". This means that everywhere you go you will see creative ways of using the theme "WATER" in the participating shop's sample. It might be in the pattern or the fabric they used. Ours is an appliqued row of the Ceylon Covered Bridge. Many of the shops are also making license plates for customers to purchase. Ours is "Banks of the Wabash" all in the water theme. We love to advertise some of the special, historic places of our area. If you are interested in visiting a few shops in the Row by Row, be sure to look up "Row by Row Experience" online

Embroidery Club and Floriani Projects
 We have two classes available for the those who love machine embroidery and love to use your machine. Check this out!

To anyone who attends our Floriani embroidery classes we will be offering a special project from Floriani that is designed to teach a concept. It is everything from the fabric, stitches, techniques and ideas to teach and instruct all the wonderful capabilities these embroidery machines can accomplish. Come join us and learn. The Floriani Signature Social will be held every other month with a different project during the next month.  We will help you with the stabilizer and hooping the project all while learning more about your machine.  June's Signature Social will be on Monday, June 22nd from 10 am to 5 pm.  This month will be a wall hanging with the design pack Say it with Stitches.  This kit consists of full packs of stabilizers, threads, needles, designs that you will need and enough to last for many more projects.  It also includes the mini applique scissors and precision angle tweezers.  We will have a sample soon in the shop.  Let us know by June 12th if you would like one of these kits and join us on June 22nd.

If you are a beginner Embroiderer and you would like to learn what this is all about, Thursday, June 4th is for you.  Diane will help you with a project or with something you have started. Or maybe you might like to learn about your machine by embroidering your first design. It doesn't matter what direction you are wanting to go, Diane and Lydia will help you learn what you can do with your embroidery machine.  Be sure to email us so we can get you on our Embroidery Club News Flash group that includes pictures of what you will be working on. This month we will continue working on the 30's quilt or a project of your choosing.  Bring in suggestions of what you would like to work on.  We understand not everyone wants to create the same thing so we will help you with whatever you want to work on.  We will also be demonstrating how to create some of your own designs and techniques in the Floriani software.  We will be available to work with you from 10 to 5 on Thursday, June 4th.
 

  

Stitcher's Garden  1 and 2
Stitcher's Garden will be on Tuesday, June 7th from 10 am to 5 pm.  Feel free to join us no matter what block you are on or if you want to get started.   We have students who are on their first block and others on their 6th block while others are putting on their borders.  Please come and we will help you get started.
 
Both Stitcher's Gardens are a Block of the Month program that gives you the opportunity to learn to use your sewing machine and feet.  You are welcome to begin either class at anytime. 

   A few of the techniques used include:
* PINTUCKING
* TWIN and WING needles
* BOBBINWORK has been stepped up for more challenges on the flower and leaves using not only #5 Perle cotton but an 1/8" polyester satin ribbon.
* TWISTED floss in front of the needle on vines.
* FRINGE or TAILOR TACK foot is used around one of the centers for a looped edging.
* COUCHING rick rack and 1/8" ribbon adds another dimension to the blocks.
* CIRCULAR attachment is used to create a flower and border.
* RUFFLER is a new foot being featured to create three flowers.
* BINDER foot is another new foot being featured not to bind the quilt but to add an accent edge to the corner triangles and the edge of the binding.
 
Stitcher's Garden 2 has a machine embroidery version along with an applique version. This quilt is for those who loved the first quilt and want to learn even more.  Let us know if  you want to sign up for these classes so we can have the patterns ready for you. Every month we have customers who decide to join this class.
Stitcher's Garden  will be on June 7th from 10 am to 5 pm.

Fractured Bargello Jacket Class
On Thursday, June 11th, we will continue our class to make a Fractured Bargello Jacket. This jacket is sewn on a sweatshirt and uses 11  1/3yd fabrics plus 1 1/4 yd of a focus fabric. You will take your sweatshirt apart by removing the sleeves and the bottom ribbing. Do not remove the neck. You will also need your fabrics and the pattern which we have in the shop. Donna will have a sample to view so that you will be able to see how beautiful this jacket is for you or for a friend. This class is $10 each month plus supplies and we are going to meet for 3 months on the 2nd Thursday each month from 10 to 5 each month.


$5 Saturday Club
On Saturday, June 13th from 10 to 3, we will be demoing two blocks which will work into a beautiful quilt called PARK BENCH. The two blocks will be done in fabric which we will have bagged for $5 if you come to the demo. We are using JayBird Quilts book Park Bench to make this quilt along with their templates. Each month we will  look at some of the things you see when sitting on a park bench. You can see a first date, listen to a sing along or take in a festival. Why not let us "Take you out to the Ballgame"! Come enjoy making this quilt with all the memories of what you see on a Park Bench.


Strip block Quilt Class
In the same book " BLOCKS TO DIAMONDS" Donna found a strip quilt that is "knock your socks off" beautiful! So Donna and Mel put this beauty together and had Carla quilt it.  We will offer kits for this class which are available. This quilt class will be on Thursday, May 26th  from 10 to 5pm and again on Tuesday, June 30th from 10 to 5 pm. The cost of this class is $10 plus the book if you have not purchased it yet. Do not forget the kit.  Donna will be teaching this class with Mel and we will also have my Dad, Duane Bluhm, available to help with cutting if needed. Donna also has another quilt from this book ready for Tuesday,July 28th entitled "Frost on the Window", in honor of our Christmas in July. Then we will be working on  yet another quilt for September. That will make Four quilts from this one book. It is a winner!!


Kids Summer Classes

We will offer sewing classes on 8 Mondays from 1 to 5 pm. Each class will have a different objective, completed project and cost for each week. There will be fabric requirements and suggested notions with each week. You may pick and choose the projects that interests you or come to all 8 classes and begin loving this most incredible hobby. Sign up or call so we will be ready with helpers and teachers.

Pennies from Heaven
 We have also decided to do a Block of the month with the book "Pennies from Heaven". This quilt has so many great helps for beginning with wool. If you would like to begin, You will need the book and a kit for class. Each month the cost will be $28 which includes the wool, fabric and instructions. This is a wonderful way to enjoy using wool to make a great, beautiful quilt. The next block will be on Tuesday, June 9th from 1 to 5pm. Make sure you stop by and view these blocks to see what we are going to be working on.

Sarah's Sampler
Jennifer Chiaverini has a wonderful quilt which she wrote about called Sarah's Sampler. Donna Peyerk will be teaching this quilt on Thursday, May 21st and again on Thursday, June 18th. This quilt is a wonderful way to learn the basics of piecing a quilt. We have a sample in the shop to view. You will need a book and all your fabrics to make this quilt. The cost of this class is $10 per month.

Amish with a Twist
If you like the traditional Quilt using solids, log cabin blocks and other great piecing tricks, you will love Amish with a Twist II. WE will be making this quilt starting Monday, June 15th from 10 to 5 pm. Each month will have it's own kit with the fabrics needed to complete the blocks for that month including the pattern. There will be two ways you will be able to purchase this quilt. 1.You may divide the quilt into 6 months, payable on the 15th of each month with a credit card for $50 each. This includes the teacher fee and your pattern. or 2. You may purchase the complete kit with the pattern which will be $199.98 plus you will need to pay $10 per month to the teacher. This choice is a $40 savings. There is a picture of the quilt on our web site with the different choices listed. If you cannot make the first meeting be sure to come to the class on Monday, June 15th

Scissor Sharpening
Every year we schedule a Scissor Sharpening day where anyone can come into the shop and sharpen their scissors, knives, hoe, food chopper or anything that needs sharpening. This year is no exception. We have scheduled our sharpening day for Saturday, July 11th from 10 to 3. Quality Sharpening will be set up in the shop ready to sharpen your utensils. If you would like you may drop off your items in the shop before Saturday and we will tag them for you to pick up after Saturday if your schedule will permit. This service is the best in the sharpening world by far. Mark it on your calendar.

Aunt Sukey's Quilt
Marti came out with Book 5 last year and we loved what we saw in this wonderful book. One of the quilts were named Aunt Sukey's quilt. This quilt has great sashings, borders and 12 wonderful blocks using Marti's Q template set. This class will be Tuesday, June 16th. from 1 to 5 pm and again on Tuesday, July 21st. This class  will be every third Tuesday of the month for 12 months. You will need the book, the template Q set and your fabric requirements. We do have Donna 's quilt hanging in the shop for a sample as to what your quilt will look like. It is a queen size but can be re-figured to your own specific size.

Heirloom Quilt - Crazy Quilt
We are working on bringing you a very special quilt which we know you will fall in love with like we have. It is an heirloom Quilt and it is beautiful. We will be doing this quilt in three different ways. One will be done in a crazy quilt fashion with all hand work, stitches, heirloom designs and vintage over all look. The other one will be done on the sewing machine with great stitches and wonderful designs made by our machines. The third quilt will be taught with Machine Embroidery in mind. This quilt class will be Thursday, May 28th from 12 to 5 pm. and then again on Thursday, July 30th from 12 to 5 pm.  You will need the book and your supplies for the class. This class will be on the fourth Thursday of each month. We have a number of samples to look at in the shop so be sure to sign up for this class. It is one of a kind.

Not Just Another Towel
On Friday, July 10th from 10 to 5pm, we will begin a brand new class for machine embroidery or traditional applique enthusiast. Each month we will focus on a different sewing foot and a techniques featuring Tea Towels. You will learn how to use these feet for your sewing machine:  Buttonhole, zipper, edge, pintucking, couching and ruffler. You will receive a notebook to keep all your patterns in for future use. Each month will be $20 which will include your kit to make the project. You will get the project done in class. If you are a machine embroiderer, be sure to bring a USB stick to get the designs on your machine. Our fist project will be a Christmas towel for our Christmas in July month and you will be ahead of the seasons by starting in July. This class will be the 2nd Friday of each month.

Christmas in July
I know what you are thinking - Christmas is a long way off! Yes but we want you to start your project buying in July so you will have those projects done and wrapped before December. We are excited about having Christmas in July. We have a number of projects during the month that can be used for Christmas gifts. We have samples of all of them in the shop on a Table Marked "Christmas in July Projects" so come take a look. Here is the list of what we will be offering:
