Our $5 Saturday has been moved from September 12th to September 19th from 10 to 3 due to the Floriani Event which will be held in the shop on the 12th.

Open sewing is Wednesdays and Fridays

We also have rolls of Stabilizers which would cost over $100 each but we are selling each one of them for only $20 each. Be the first one to purchase a roll of stabilizers, and never be left without just the right piece to make that beautiful design you are envisioning. 


Marti and Me Club
      Marti and Me club is all about learning a new template. If you attend this meeting you will receive a free Marti Michell pattern for coming to the class which will meet on Tuesday, September 15th from 1 to 4. Carol will show us the Pineapple Pizazz in a Classic Pineapple Wall Hanging using the Pineapple Ruler. The next club will be held on Tuesday, October 20th. We will be using the Book 2 of Marti's, making the Lobster Cactus block to make a table topper. This uses sets A and C.
     Each month, Marti and Me opens up our minds to patterns and templates to see what the capabilities of each tool can be. You are welcome to come and sew or come and go.   Marti's templates are so accurate that they make the hardest shapes easy. We also have a card made by Marti that you can mark all the templates you have purchased and carry it with you so you will not duplicate any of these handy items.


Floriani Event=Our spaces have been filled for this event so we will be taking down names for a waiting list. If you would like to be put on this list, be sure to call us before the Event, September 11th.

    The Floriani Event  will be coming Friday and Saturday, September 11th and 12th from 10 to 4:30. This Event will come at a cost of $49.99 for the day with each person attending, taking home $499 worth of product home. Each day is the same so you can either sign up for Friday September 11th or Saturday, September 12th. This is what Floriani states on their web site:

Join Floriani for this in depth embroidery class and learn stress-free techniques for hooping, eliminating puckering, understanding embroidery designs and how they affect your garment, choosing the right needle for stitch and garment type. This three hour session will be very in depth and full of fantastic information which will make your embroidery creations perfect every time!

2:00pm to 4:30pm: Let’s Get Creative

In the afternoon we will move into how to use Floriani Stabilizers and our other specialty products for quilting, applique, home decorating items, embellishment and more! Who knew stabilizers could make such a fun difference in your creativity! This afternoon session will surely get your creative juices flowing and give you fantastic ideas for gift giving, stitching with your kids or grandkids, and most importantly having fun in your sewing room but with perfect results!

{Janome's Big Sale}

Janome has announced that on September 3rd through September 8th they will have 0% financing on any purchase over $3000  for 48 months. If you have been thinking about purchasing a new Embroidery machine or trading in your existing sewing machine for an embroidery sewing machine, now is the time to jump. Mariner's Compass Star Paper Piecing Class
Have you ever wanted to learn to Paper Piece?  Judy Coghill will be teaching the ease of Paper Piecing while making some drop dead gorgeous Mariner's Compass Star Blocks to be used in a table runner or quilt.  This class will be on Monday, September 14th  from 12 to 4pm and Saturday, September 19th from 11 to closing at 3pm..   We will copy the Stars being used that day so you will be able to use our Paper Piecing Paper. The cost of this class is $10 for the instruction. Be sure to purchase the book and the add a quarter ruler to help with the piecing.


Row By Row
September 9th is the closing of this year's Row By Row Experience. We still have a few of our kits for our free pattern and a few license plates available. Be sure to get yours before 5pm on Wednesday, September 9th. You still have until October 31st to complete your quilt and bring it in for the 25 fat quarters. If our row pattern is in the quilt you will receive something special as a gift.


Floriani Embroidery Club 
 
For everyone who attends the Floriani Event we are offering free classes to help you learn the software and create fabulous designs. Beginning on Monday, September 14th from 10 to 5 pm, Diane will be helping you explore the wonderful world of Floriani and how the software works with your embroidery machine. Every two weeks for the next two months and beyond we will explore the world of Floriani. These Mondays will be September 14th, 28th, October 12th, and 26th.


If you are a beginner Embroiderer and you would like to learn, Thursday, September 3rd and October 1st is for you.  Diane will help you with a project or with something you have started. Or maybe you might like to learn about your machine by embroidering your first design. It doesn't matter what direction you are wanting to go, Diane and Lydia will help you learn what you can do with your embroidery machine.  Be sure to email us so we can get you on our Embroidery Club News Flash group that includes pictures of what you will be working on.  Bring in suggestions of what you would like to work on.  We understand not everyone wants to create the same thing so we will help you with whatever you want to work on.  We will also be demonstrating how to create some of your own designs and techniques in the Floriani software.  We will be available to work with you from 10 to 5 on these dates: Thursday, September 3rd and October 1st.


Stitcher's Garden  1 and 2
Stitcher's Garden will be on Tuesday, September 1st and October 6th from 10 am to 5 pm.  Feel free to join us no matter what block you are on or if you want to get started.   We have students who are on their first block and others on their 6th block while others are putting on their borders.  Please come and we will help you get started.
 
Both Stitcher's Gardens are a Block of the Month program that gives you the opportunity to learn to use your sewing machine and feet.  You are welcome to begin either class at anytime. 

   A few of the techniques used include:
* PINTUCKING
* TWIN and WING needles
* BOBBINWORK has been stepped up for more challenges on the flower and leaves using not only #5 Perle cotton but an 1/8" polyester satin ribbon.
* TWISTED floss in front of the needle on vines.
* FRINGE or TAILOR TACK foot is used around one of the centers for a looped edging.
* COUCHING rick rack and 1/8" ribbon adds another dimension to the blocks.
* CIRCULAR attachment is used to create a flower and border.
* RUFFLER is a new foot being featured to create three flowers.
* BINDER foot is another new foot being featured not to bind the quilt but to add an accent edge to the corner triangles and the edge of the binding.
 
Stitcher's Garden 2 has a machine embroidery version along with an applique version. This quilt is for those who loved the first quilt and want to learn even more.  Let us know if  you want to sign up for these classes so we can have the patterns ready for you. Every month we have customers who decide to join this class.
Stitcher's Garden  will be on October 6th from 10 am to 5 pm.


$5 Saturday Club
Our $5 Saturday has been moved from September 12th to September 19th from 10 to 3 due to the Floriani Event which will be held in the shop on the 12th. PARK BENCH QUILT has two blocks each month for only $5 if you attend the class. We are using JayBird Quilts book Park Bench to make this quilt along with their templates. Come enjoy making this quilt with all the memories of what you see on a Park Bench.


Tuscan Sun Quilt from "BLOCKS TO DIAMONDS"  Class
In the book " BLOCKS TO DIAMONDS" This fabulous FALL Quilt will be offered on Tuesday, September 22nd from 10 to 5 pm.  We have kits for this quilt made with the fabrics in the quilt and they are available. The cost of this class is $10 plus the book if you have not purchased it yet and the kit.  Donna will be teaching this class with Mel. That will make five quilts from this one book. It is a winner!!                 


Sarah's Sampler
Jennifer Chiaverini has a wonderful quilt which she wrote about called Sarah's Sampler. Donna Peyerk will be teaching this quilt on Thursday, September 17th from 10 to 5 pm. This quilt is a wonderful way to learn the basics of piecing a quilt. We have a sample in the shop to view. You will need a book and all your fabrics to make this quilt. The cost of this class is $10 per month.


Amish with a Twist
If you like the traditional Quilt using solids, log cabin blocks and other great piecing tricks, you will love Amish with a Twist II. WE will be making this quilt starting Monday, September 21st from 10 to 5 pm. Each month will have it's own kit with the fabrics needed to complete the blocks for that month including the pattern. There is a picture of the quilt on our web site.. Remember:  class on Monday, September 21st and October 19th.


Aunt Sukey's Quilt
Marti came out with Book 5 last year and we loved what we saw in this wonderful book. One of the quilts were named Aunt Sukey's quilt. This quilt has great sashings, borders and 12 wonderful blocks using Marti's Q template set. This class will be from 1 to 5 pm on Tuesday,September 15th and again on October 20th. This class  will be every third Tuesday of the month. You will need the book, the template Q set and your fabric requirements. It is a queen size but can be re-figured to your own specific size.



Not Just Another Towel
On Friday, September 18th and October 9th from 10 to 5pm, (Notice the date change due to the Floriani Event) we will be making a towel with machine embroidery or traditional applique. Each month we will focus on a different sewing foot and a techniques featuring Tea Towels. You will learn how to use these feet for your sewing machine:  Buttonhole, zipper, edge, pintucking, couching and ruffler. You will receive a notebook to keep all your patterns in for future use. Each month will be $20 which will include your kit to make the project. You will get the project done in class. If you are a machine embroiderer, be sure to bring a USB stick to get the designs on your machine. Our towel for this month will be a towel for February. This class will be the 2nd Friday of each month.


Country Crossroads Class
On Thursday, September 24th and again on Thursday, October 29th, we will be working on a beautiful slate blue quilt called "Country Crossroads". This quilt is a Nancy Rink Designs which is the designer of the Amish with a Twist 2 quilt pattern. This quilt is a large 105 X 105 quilt with some applique. This quilt is a beautiful quilt for anyone's bed or as a gift for a family member. We have complete kits in the shop which may be purchased before the class. The kits include the pattern, all the fabric for the top of the quilt -- including the applique and the binding. We will meet on the fourth Thursday of the month until this quilt is completed from 10 to 5 pm. Please stop by the shop to see this quilt for yourself. It is a beauty!


Sew Till you Drop in September
We will be having another "SEW TILL YOU DROP" day in September on Friday, the 25th from 10 am to when the last sew er is standing. We will order pizza or some food around 7 pm. Bring in whatever project you would like to work on.


Scrap Therapy
Scrap Therapy will begin on Thursday, September 3rd from 2 to 8 pm. This is a day set aside to sew with your own scraps and make a beautiful quilt with the help from a teacher who has completed the sample. We will be working on Edita Sitar's pattern using your own scraps to complete a beautiful quilt or a similar quilt in the Baskets, Birds and Boughs Book. Your choice. We will be having Show and Tell at 7pm so whether you come for the entire time or just for Show and Tell, be sure to be a part of this Scrappy Time Together. Remember: Thursday, September 3rd from 2 to 8 pm and again on October 1st from 2 to 8 pm with "Show and Tell" at 7 pm

Harvest Hop

Six Quilt Shops have joined together to bring you THE HARVEST HOP which runs from Wednesday, September 23rd to Saturday, September 26th. This hop includes: Quilts N Gifts - Bluffton, Country Creations - Preble, Edwards Sewing Center - Ft Wayne, A Quilt of Many Colors - Leo, Caroline's Cottage - Rome City, and Engine House - Berne. We are giving you a Fall themed pattern at each shop when you hop. Engine House has made a table runner in Batiks with falling leaves on it which we have cut out with fusible and placed them in each one of the kits we have available for the hop. Be sure to be one of the first people to purchase this kit during the hop. This is going to be FUN!!!


Quilting with Templates

On Tuesday, October 13th, Carol Cummings will be teaching a three part class on Quilting with Templates. The first month we will be using a template and foot that will make quilting look professional. This class will run from 10 to 5 pm and you will receive the template, marking pen, batting and fabric along with the instructions for three classes for only $49.99. This class will actually save you by quilting your own table runners, table toppers, purses and other smaller projects. And if you really enjoy this technique, you might even use it on a larger quilt. It is beautiful. We have samples of what you will be creating each month.  You will need to bring your 6 X 24 inch ruler to class. Tuesday, October 13th and again on November 10th and December 8th.

Inside Out Jacket Class

On Monday, October 5th we will be working on Jackets in the shop. Our most popular jacket patter: The Inside Out Jacket will be our focus but we can also work on the Raggy Shaggy Jacket which we have in the shop also. The class will be from 10 to 5 pm and will require a kit with the pattern. We will cut out our pattern and sew the jacket in class.

UFO Friday

Engine House would like to help you complete those UnFinished Objects or Projects that you have in your sewing room. So when you sign up for this Club. We will have you fill out a UFO List with 9 projects named that are not complete in your sewing room. Before the club, We will have you draw out one name. This will be your project for the next month. When completed you will draw out another name. We want you to complete each project in a month but if that is not the case you will have three Whopper-Jawed passes which you may use. Once those three Whopper-Jawed passes are used and your project is not completed, you must treat the club with snacks.
Our first club will start on Friday, October 16th at 10 am and go till the last person turns the light out.
November's meeting will be on Friday, November 20th and  then again on Friday, December 18th

Geneva Center Retreat in Rochester Indiana

One of our very favorite retreats is in the Fall in Rochester, Indiana from Thursday, October 22 nd for early birds through Sunday, October 25th. This retreat is perfect for working on Christmas items, unfinished projects, classes and just getting away. Be sure to pick up a flyer if one is not sent to you. We will be offering a class on machine maintenance and a very special price on cleaning your sewing machine during the retreat. Mark this date on your calendars and be sure to get your name on the list of attenders.
