Special This Year
We will be having Quality Sharpening at our Retreat this year.
All day on Saturday, March 5th Quality Sharpening will be set up in our retreat center. This means for a very reasonable price you will be able to sharpen those scissors, knives, food choppers, paper cutters, or anything that cuts. Quality Sharpening is very knowledgeable and can answer any of your cutting needs.
We will be having a few demos this year that you might be interested in:
Donna Peyerk will be doing a demo on Lucy Boston English Paperpiecing
Carol Yoder will be doing a demo on Kalido Ruler.
Diane Martin will be doing a demo on a little pouch.
Linda will be organizing our First Block Challenge:
Split 9-patch Block Trade 2016
You are invited to join us for a block trade at the
March Retreat at the Geneva Center. Like the Log
Cabin block, the Split Nine Patch block has a strong
diagonal line created by value. It is the diagonal line
that allows for many setting possibilities.
For the overall pattern to be seen across the surface of this quilt, the values in
the blocks must be consistent. The lights must be within the same value range
and lighter than any of the medium to dark fabrics. When making this quilt, all
fabrics to be used should be sorted into a group of lights and a group of
medium to darks. If a fabric doesn’t seem to fit into either group, I wouldn’t use
We will trade in sets of 8. You can trade as many sets as you wish. (each set is
2. Please use 100% cotton fabric of quilt store quality
3. Colorway – theme is Fall colors.
The lights should be cream/beige/off white,
and the dark/med could be any fall color – gold, brown, greens, rust, reds, etc.
Small prints, tone on tone will work best for this pattern.
4. Blocks will measure 9 ½” to finish at 9”.
For each block you will need 4- 3 ½”
dark squares, 3- 3 ½” light squares, and 2- 3 ½” half square triangles.
5. To make 8 blocks:
cut 3-3 ½” strips of dark, 3- 3 ½ “ strips of light. Cut 24 3
½” squares of each dark and light strips. Cut 1 strip each light and dark 3 7/8”
for the half square triangles. Cut into 3 7/8” squares then make your triangles
using the traditional method. You can use whatever method you are
comfortable with for making the half square triangles. Just make sure they are
3 ½” unfinished. This yardage will yield 8 blocks. Arrange the squares and half
square triangles as per the picture on the web site in the Retreat area.
I will have some layouts available for ideas on finishing the blocks into a quilt.
Your goal is to have something made of these blocks
(you can add more or take away blocks) at the Fall Retreat.
There may be prizes!!!!
