Cosmetic Bag Class

On Tuesday, April 26th, from 10 am to 3 pm we will be working the cutest little cosmetic bag. Chiyuki Wickey will be teaching the art of making these little bags. These will be wonderful gifts for anyone on your gift giving list.

May Coupon Month
In the month of May we will be selling $40 coupons to be used in June for $25 each. These coupons are great to used on kits, fabric, and notions in June. They can be used in combination and on sale items. These coupons can only be purchased in May to be used in June.


Lucy Boston

Looking for a hand project you can take anywhere? Why not look at Lucy Boston which will be an heirloom your children and grandchildren will fight over. You can take your time, choose small pieces of wonderful fabric, cut out the pieces and put them in a bag to take anywhere. The doctor's office,waiting in line, in the car or just in your easy chair at night - these blocks will amaze you, dazzle your friends and completely relax you after a hard day. Our Lucy Boston class will meet Tuesdays May 10th and May 24th from 10 to 3pm. We meet the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays for your convenience. Come as often as you want, stay as long as you want. This is a class for you to help you put together blocks to take with you everywhere.



Floriani Embroidery Club 
 
  We will explore the world of Floriani on Monday,May 9th for FTCU customers. We will be exploring the Floriani software on your computer by working on digitizing an embossed project. This class is from 10 to 3 pm. We will be answering questions, working through the steps and the options available with the software. If you have questions or a request,bring them to class or please give us a call or email us your thoughts. Floriani software is the best on the market and can do anything, and I mean anything. Come in and see a demo.
Then on Monday, April 25th we will be playing with MDQII. Another project will be worked on while answering questions and using the software to accomplish some pretty cool quilting techniques. This class is from 10 am to 3 pm and is well worth your time to check out, even if you do not have the software yet but would love to see it work.

Kids Classes for the Summer
Kids classes will begin Friday, June 3rd and run for 8 weeks until Friday, July 22nd from 1 to 4 pm. We will be making purses, quilts, and a number of other items which will be announced in the next newsletter. Grab your grand-children and make Fridays your day out, learning an art that can be enjoyed for a long time - together.

Stitcher's Garden  1 and 2
Stitcher's Garden will be on Tuesday, May 3rd from 10 am to 5 pm.  Feel free to join us no matter what block you are on or if you want to get started.   We have students who are on their first block and others on their 6th block while others are putting on their borders.  Please come and we will help you get started.
 
Both Stitcher's Gardens are a Block of the Month program that gives you the opportunity to learn to use your sewing machine and feet.  You are welcome to begin either class at anytime. 

   A few of the techniques used include:
* PINTUCKING
* TWIN and WING needles
* BOBBINWORK has been stepped up for more challenges on the flower and leaves using not only #5 Perle cotton but an 1/8" polyester satin ribbon.
* TWISTED floss in front of the needle on vines.
* FRINGE or TAILOR TACK foot is used around one of the centers for a looped edging.
* COUCHING rick rack and 1/8" ribbon adds another dimension to the blocks.
* CIRCULAR attachment is used to create a flower and border.
* RUFFLER is a new foot being featured to create three flowers.
* BINDER foot is another new foot being featured not to bind the quilt but to add an accent edge to the corner triangles and the edge of the binding.
 
Stitcher's Garden 2 has a machine embroidery version along with an applique version. This quilt is for those who loved the first quilt and want to learn even more.  Let us know if  you want to sign up for these classes so we can have the patterns ready for you. Every month we have customers who decide to join this class.
Stitcher's Garden  will be on Tuesday, May 3rd and again on Tuesday, June7th from 10 am to 5 pm. 

We are open on Saturdays from 10 to 3 pm.

                
Inspirations Book Class
Judy Coghill will be teaching Applique out of the book "Inspirations". Judy made the heart wall hanging and then had it hand quilted. It is beautiful and can be done with Judy's instruction on Tuesday, May 31st frin 10 to 3 pm. The cost of this class is the book, a kit and $10 for the instructor.


Secret Garden
It is not to late to join Secret Garden block of the month. In this class we will be piecing beautiful blocks which we will be quilting on May 19th and May 26th. Along with quilting in sections, teaching you how to quilt on your own sewing machine instead of taking your quilt project to be quilted. Donna will be showing us how to piece and then quilt in sections so that we can apply this technique to all our quilts. In May, during our class, we will be demonstrating how to quilt the first 6 blocks in two different ways. Be sure to bring your six blocks to class with your back and batting. We will be quilting this quilt in sections to complete the total package. Plus we will be putting on the binding in class before this quilt is completed, so make sure you see this quilt to it's completion.. You will need to sign up and purchase a kit or pull fabrics which you would like to use to make this quilt. See you on Thursday, May 19th or May 26th from 10 am to 5 pm. It will be a $10 fee for each pattern block.

Quilting with Templates
Along side of the Class " Secret Garden", we will be doing a class with Quilting with Templates. This class will be teaching how to quilt with templates. If this is something you would like to see up close, Carol Cumming will be showing us the simplistic method of using templates to quilt our projects from a table runner to a full size quilt. This method uses a special foot specific to your sewing machine and 2 templates which costs $75. This package may be ordered by telling us the sewing machine you will be using for the class. There is also a value package which includes 6 templates available.  Be sure to have these packages ready to be used on Monday, May 2nd and Monday,May 16th from 10 to 5 pm. The cost of the class is $10 plus the beginning sets to get started. In these classes we will be making a table runner out of blocks that you will be quilting in different styles and designs with your templates. This is a cost savor if you piece any number of projects. The over all look is very professional and all done by you.

Quilting With Templates
Carol Cummings will be teaching a block of the month, quilting with templates Quilt beginning Monday, June 6th from 10 to 3 pm. This Quilt is like the one done in Australia by the designer and is now being offered in the United States. If you love working with the templates on a beginner status, this is the class for you. You will be learning a number of different templates that will not only make your quilting look professional, they will also be an eye catcher. You will need to make sure you have the quilting foot specific to your sewing machine and whatever templates you have to date. We will have the templates used each month on hand for all students who signs up. This class will fill up fast so be sure to sign up and reserve your templates.


Hand Quilting
At Engine House we have been blessed with a wonderful Hand Quilter. This makes it possible to offer hand quilting when you complete a quilt. This can be for a baby quilt, a full size quilt, a memory quilt or a vintage quilt. All you need to do is bring your completed top to the quilt shop. We will help you purchase batting and a back and we will take it from there. We will give it to our quilter and when it is finished we will give you a call to come pick it up. The price is comparable to machine quilting and is beautiful. This gives you some choices when you get ready to have your quilt quilted.

Machine Cleaning
When was the last time you had your machine cleaned? Well, if you have completed a few projects for Christmas, or if you have been sewing Minkee or flannel, now is the time to get that machine cleaned. Mel is our machine expert and he will oil, clean, change the needle and adjust the tension in your machine to make it run like a top. Our price will be $59.98. Mel can fix almost any machine so if you are having issues with one of your sewing machines, bring it to Mel and see what he can do.

Trunk Shows or Private Classes
If you are a member of a sewing group or guild and you are looking for a different type program. Why not ask Engine House to come do a trunk show for your group. We do not charge anything for the program. We only ask that we can set up a store which those who attend can shop at when the program is over. Just a thought!! We can also do a private class for all your friends.



Not Just Another Towel
On Friday, May 13th from 10 to 5pm, we will be making a towel with machine embroidery or traditional applique. Each month we will focus on a different sewing foot and a techniques featuring Tea Towels. You will learn how to use these feet for your sewing machine:  Buttonhole, zipper, edge, pintucking, couching and ruffler. You will receive a notebook to keep all your patterns in for future use. Each month will be $20 which will include your kit to make the project. You will get the project done in class. If you are a machine embroiderer, be sure to bring a USB stick to get the designs on your machine. Our towel for this month will be a towel for October and Next Month, June 10th, will be the towel for November. This November class will be our last towel class. We have all of the previous months' towels in the shop so if there is a month you would like to purchase or see, please stop by and pick up a kit.


The Sale room is filled with many items 50% off including kits, fabrics, books and patterns. This room is fun to rummage through to see what lays beneath the piles.


Friday Sew In
Engine House is opening the class room on Friday, May 20th for anyone who would like to get a few projects completed. This day is a come and go with no cost. If no one is here by 5 pm or we do not hear of anyone coming, we will close at 5 pm. The next Sew In will be Friday, June 17th.  


Ugly Fabric Class
Have you ever went through your sewing room and found UGLY fabric? Fabric that was purchased, but why? It is not your colors or look. It doesn't match anything you have. On Thursday, May 12th we will be having an UGLY Fabric class. You bring in your ugly fabric and we cut and sew a beautiful masterpiece quilt out of it. This class will begin at 10 am and go till 3pm. The cost of the class will be $10 and you bring in at least 2 yards of your ugly fabric. We will help you choose fabrics to complete your quilt project.


Feathered Star Bed Runner Class
On Tuesday, May 17th from 10 to 5 pm, we will be making a Feathered Star Bed Runner.This is a perfect project for anyone who loves the down comforts on their bed but still likes a pieced quilt draped at the end of the bed. This project will be a QUILT AS YOU GO project with lots of options. You can piece each block and then quilt each block, then put the runner together or piece each block put it together and then quilt the runner. We will be showing you both methods. This class will also cover the binding of this project as well all for the low cost of $10 for the class. We will have kits for this class at a $55. Mark this date on your calendars and be watching for the sample which is being quilting with templates as this newsletter is going out.

Dayton One Stop Shop Hop
Engine House is a Vender at the Dayton One Stop in Fairborn, Ohio on Friday, April 22nd & 23rd. This One Stop Shop Hop is one of our favorites. Anita Goodesign - Around the World Workshop
On Friday, April 29th Lydia will be working with our Embroiderers on making some very practical projects that can be used as gifts or for yourself when you travel this summer. We have the programs in the shop to purchase and then all day on the is Friday, April 29th we will be making

Tea Leaf Paper Piecing Class
We have fallen in love with a few Paper Piecing patterns which we are going to teach at the shop. Starting on Tuesday June 21st we will be piecing a Tea Leaf Table runner that is so cool. It can be used so many different ways and it is beautiful. We will be meeting for three months to get this pieced and quilted. Then in September we will begin a Paper Pieced Quilt which we know you will love. We will include pictures on the web and the pattern in the shop with samples for you to touch and feel and begin to plan into your schedule. This class will begin, Tuesday, June 21st for the Tea Leaf Table runner then in September we will start on a quilt. Be sure to be the first to purchase a kit for the table runner and your fabric for the quilt.

Vintage Onyx Quilt
There has been a big fascination with the Lucy Boston Quilt over the last year. So along those lines we have decided to do a quilt that combines the art of piecing and the honeycomb shapes to make one gorgeous quilt in taupes, blacks, whites and creams. The middle is honeycombs along with four other blocks but the rest is straight piecing. We have a picture by the cash register to view. IF you would like to sign up, let us know and we will make you a kit for this class. We will beginning this quilt on Thursday, July 14th from 10 to 3 pm for six months.

Floriani Event - Three Classes
We are so excited to announce our next Floriani Event which will be September 8th, 9th, 10th & 11th.  This is a weekend filled with information you do not want to miss. On Thursday, September 8th we will be having a "All Things Quilting" Seminar from 12 to 5 pm. This class costs $29.95 and you will receive a Free Gift from FLoriani and Engine House valued at over $200. This class is about battings, stabilizers, fusible webs and stabilizers to create stunning quilt and home dec projects. Then on Friday and Saturday, September 9th & 10th, We will again explore the world of embroidery with a complete day talking about stabilizers, needles, thread, software and designs. You will be choosing between either Friday or Saturday for this class which costs $49.95. You will be receiving a free gift valued over $500 to take home with you.
Then on Sunday, September 11th, we will be opening the shop
for anyone who ever thought of or are curious about the software. You will be able to bring in your computer and we will download a dummy copy of the software to play with and design with along with the instructor. So this would be a great time to answer your questions, see for yourself how the software works and how easy it is to design your own projects. Mark these dates on your calendar. Spaces will be limited so be sure to be one of the lucky ones who will attend.
